A GROUP of residents, traders and councillors who work tirelessly to improve their town have received a prestigious award..

Clive Auld received the County Durham Volunteering Award on behalf of Bishop Auckland Town Team at a special ceremony at Durham Cathedral earlier this month.

The awards celebrate people who are dedicated to helping others and improving their communities. Bishop Auckland Town Team was set up to do just that. It was launched in March 2012, and its volunteers come up with innovative ideas to boost the town centre.

Mr Auld, who is chairman of the events team, said it was wonderful to receive the recognition, adding: “This award is not about me, it is about the town team and all of the volunteers who work hard to make Bishop Auckland a better place to live, work and visit.

“We organise events to attract people into the town and to help boost businesses in the town centre. We also promote the town and its businesses as much as possible because we want Bishop Auckland and its people to prosper.”
