ONE of Britain’s most recognisable bakers is looking forward to visiting the North-East when she brings her showstopping style to this year’s Bishop Auckland Food Festival.

A former winner of the Great British Bake Off thanks to her unique creations, Candice Brown will be sharing her baking tips in the Cookery Theatre, in Bishop Auckland Town Hall, on Sunday, at noon and 3pm.

The former secondary school teacher wowed judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood to be crowned winner of the seventh series.

In her victory speech she attributed her success to starting baking with her nan and mum at just four years old.

Since that win in 2016 she has become a full-time baker, columnist for The Sunday Times magazine and TV personality.

Candice, who competed in the most recent series of Dancing on Ice, has also released her first book.

Comfort: Delicious Bakes and Family Treats is filled with her generous, no nonsense dishes. It features recipes for every occasion – for baking with kids, birthday parties for all ages, Christmas, afternoon tea, quick savoury bakes for weeknights and fancier recipes for weekends.

She said: “I’m looking forward to making my festival debut in Bishop Auckland.

“I can’t wait to see what delights are on offer as well as meeting fellow food and baking fans.”

She will also be signing her new book at 1pm at the book signing stand, which will be set up just outside the town hall.
