A VILLAGE’S church organ has been saved thanks to a community fund grant.

The small congregation of St Paul’s, in Witton Park, were shocked to learn they would need to find £4,000 after an asbestos survey required by Ecclesiastical Insurance revealed not only that asbestos was present in the organ box but that the organ blower needed replacing.

However, they were delighted when The Banks Group, through its Banks Community Fund, came to the rescue with a grant for the full amount.

Churchwarden, Elizabeth Hill, said: “It is a constant challenge to maintain such an old building and when you are hit with a bill such as this you are left in despair where to find to such a large amount. It is very doubtful that we would have been able to repair the organ without the Banks Contribution. We can’t thank The Banks Group enough. It is a lovely organ and we can now look forward to having the organ back to its best at our services at Christmas.”
