A CORONER has ruled that a man who was found dead in a Newton Aycliffe guest house last year died as a result of drug abuse.

Ian Jarvis, 37, was found dead in his bedsit at Bury Road Guest House on November 17.

At an inquest at Crook Coroners' Court today (Tuesday, April 30) consultant pathologist Chandrakant Patel said the post mortem had revealed methadone and other drugs in Mr Jarvis’ blood.

He said it was a combination of different drugs, rather than the quantity, that led to his death.

County Durham coroner Andrew Tweddle said: "Clearly Ian had been abusing drugs for some time and had been on methadone for some time.

“What he has done; he did himself.”
