Dalton and Gayles held its annual village show on Saturday 22 August.

Over 440 entries were received, up on last year. Categories included Fruit and Veg, Flowers, Cookery, Preserves, Handicraft, Photography, Children's, Drinks and Flower arranging.

The winners were:

  • M & J Blackburn cup (Most points in Fruit and Veg Section): William Marwood
  • Stanwix Rose Bowl for best Flower:  Jim Sadler
  • Darwin Trophy for Best Rose:   Jim Sadler
  • Trophy for Best Millie Sweet Pea:   Janet Paterson
  • Anderson Turnbull Trophy for best Men’s & Boy’s Cookery: Tony Orton
  • Dalton Mill Trophy for Best Bread: Paul Brooks
  • R & S Allen Trophy for most points in Cookery section: Carole Dean
  • Whappat Trophy for most poinys in Preserves section: Jean Teasdale
  • Mushens Trophy for best Handicraft: Ada Lund
  • Paterson Trophy for Best Photograph: Mike Chappell
  • Alan Braithwaite trophy for best in drinks section: Mags Cran
  • Dalton Wine Club Trophy for best Wine: Edward Hall
  • Mushens Trophy for best flower arrangement: Clarissa Millbank
  • Childrens Shields for most points in age group:

  Pre school children: Florence Jukes
  5-7yrs: Anya Brown
  8- 10yrs: Isobel Brooks
  Teenage (11+): Rebecca Brown

  • Lilian and David Brooks Trophy for best exhibit in show: Tony Orton
  • Ryland Cup for most overall points in show: Jean Teasdale

The day also included Childrens sports, Duck Racing in the Beck (an opportunity for the kids to get wellies on and paddle), Punch and Judy, Stalls, Afternoon tea and auction. All proceeds go to running the village hall, but the day is mainly about fun
and friendly competition for the family.
