AN award-winning florist which has served the North East for 20 years has opened a new premises in a Richmondshire village.

Diana Kaye, who runs her floristry firm in Yarm and Fenwick's, Newcastle, has opened the doors of her new branch in Gilling West, near Richmond.

Ms Kaye moved to the village two years ago and said the former village shop and post office had attracted her attention, although she initially had no plans to expand her already thriving business.

She said: "It was while taking part in the weekly clap for carers I was speaking to my neighbours about how it could be a lovely little flower shop. I'm passionate about retail and floristry, and I hate seeing empty shop premises.

"The more I thought about it, the more I thought, 'why not?' I had an idea it could be my little potting shed, or a base for online orders and collection.

"But once I'd acquired the space I realised I needed to do it properly – so I did a shop fit myself and a friend, and I'm really excited now I can open the doors.

"I've got lots of ideas on using it as a base for community arts and craft people who can run workshops. We have a big TV in the shop so could run a small class with a teacher via Zoom. I'd like to invite children for creative workshops and flower crafts, as soon as restrictions allow."

Ms Kaye said she intends to offer a seven-day service in Gilling West, and to offer homeware gifts; and also specialises in events and weddings. Visit dianakaye.co.uk.
