A COMMITTED Cadet has been officially appointed to assist the High Sheriff of North Yorkshire in his duties.

Mary Betteridge, a British Transport Police (BTP) Cadet, was appointed by the High Sheriff David Kerfoot in a virtual ceremony held by video conference.

Mr Kerfoot was filmed in his home at Aiderby Steeple whilst members of BTP attended at their Pennine Sub-Divisional headquarters in Leeds.

Mary was nominated for the honour due to her commitment and responsibility to the Cadets.

She will now help Mr Kerfoot as he attends events across the county during his year of office

Inspector Richard Price, who helped found the Cadets in 2018, said: "It has been a pleasure to get to know Mary since she joined our Cadet Unit in January 2019 and great to see how she has developed as a Cadet since then."

Mary said: "It was an honour to be chosen for this position and I am excited at the prospect of the opportunities I will get in the next year and the lifelong experiences I will gain."

Mary's interests include computer science, cycling, swimming, quilting and reading.
