YOUNG people from a North Yorkshire school have been coached by local businesses ahead of an upcoming race night.

The teams of pupils from Thirsk School have been taking part in an Apprentice style challenge to compete to sell as many tickets as possible for the event, which takes place later this month.

The young people have prepared presentations, visited boardrooms, set up online shops, approached local shops, pub and cafes in in Thirsk and done their best blagging to earn the top prize.

Work experience coordinator Mrs Beaumont said: "They have shown some serious entrepreneurial skills which we hope they can take back into the classroom for their business studies at school.

"The advice from our business leaders has been invaluable and the motivation, excitement and hard work our youngsters are putting in is impressive.

"Many thanks to Lucy White Photography , Nigel Atkinson Bathroom Emporium, Sector Insurance, Harrowells Solicitors, Watkinson Joinery and Aquatic Finatic for their time and dedication to their teams and the event overall."

The school thanked other businesses which have sponsored the race night, as well as those that have sponsored horses and jockeys.

The race night takes place on Friday, February 28.
