PLANS have been submitted to extend and modernise a social club to cement its future at the heart of one of North Yorkshire’s fastest growing towns.
Trustees of the Hanson Sports and Social Club, which opened off the Catterick Road in Colburn in 1982, have applied to Richmondshire District Council for permission to develop the centre to enable it to “prosper as an organisation and so that it is able to continue to support and cater for the local community for many years to come”.
The club, which is registered as a community asset and hosts many free events for all age groups, said it wants to introduce a dedicated disabled entrance and associated disabled toilet provision to facilitate its growing disabled patronage.
As part of a larger refurbishment programme, is aiming to make its large function room more appealing for hire by adding toilets next to the games room.
