A FILM with a screenplay written by a young York man was shown to more than 250 schoolchildren in at a museum on Holocaust Memorial Day.
Former Terrington Hall School pupil Toby Torlesse, 23, was just 18 when he started work on the screen adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s novel Waiting for Anya.
The novel tells the story of villagers who helped smuggle Jewish children across the border from occupied southern France into Spain during the Second World War.
The film adaptation stars award-winning actress Anjelica Huston and Noah Schnapp from the hit Netflix series Stranger Things.
It was shown to schoolchildren for the first time at the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford as part of Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations.
Terrington Hall English teacher Nick Witteveen said it was a ‘proud moment’ to see Mr Torlesse succeed.
