A SCHEME that provides emergency food parcels for Northallerton people facing temporary financial hardship is moving.

Hambleton FoodShare has been operating from the Zion United Reformed Church since its inception six years ago but from January 27 it will be handing out parcels from ‘The Living Room’ based in Garthway Arcade, Northallerton.

The move will see the registered charity working more closely with other local groups who are also based in The Living Room.

In addition to their usual parcel distribution, FoodShare handed out 131 special Christmas parcels over the festive period - 90 more than last year.

The special boxes were topped up with lots of Christmas treats such as mince pies, Christmas puddings, selection boxes and small gifts.

FoodShare chairman, Michael Webster said: “This was only possible thanks to the amazing generosity of our communities and the devotion of our volunteers.

“Sadly there is no sign of the need for foodbanks going away, and so we continue to be totally dependent on both our communities and volunteers.

"We hope people will find our new home more accessible and relaxing.”

The volunteer-led food store is now open every Monday between 4pm and 6pm at The Living Room.
