EFFORTS are underway at a museum to restore two Second World War veterans.

A 1941 Matchless G3L War Department Bike, used by dispatch riders and messengers, has been at Eden Camp, near Malton, since 1989. It has been kept in original condition, but a public vote was held on the museum’s Facebook page about whether to fully strip and repaint the bike, or preserve the original “patina”.

The majority wanted to keep the colouring, so engineers are working to get the engine going, and seal the original finish.

Also being restored to full working order is an M50 Super Sherman tank, which will be the only one of its kind in the UK.
