A SPECIAL school has been celebrating after one of it’s pupils presented it with £2,300 which he had raised through sponsorship when he tackled the Great North Run 5k.

Jack Baldwin is a Year 11 pupil at Mowbray School in Bedale. Staff and fellow pupils supported the youngster while he was in training for the run and were astonished when he announced how much money had been raised through sponsorship.

Headteacher Jonathan Tearle said: "Our whole school community are very proud of Jack’s achievements in raising such a large amount of money for our school. I was so impressed with not only how he managed to complete the Great North Run 5K, but also in how he has persuaded so many people to sponsor him.

"This really is a reflection of his charming, humorous and determined personality and a spectacular achievement for such a young person. We are going to use the money to buy additional sensory resources for our school.

"We just wanted to say well done Jack and to his family, for such a tremendous and outstanding effort."

Jack’s mum said: "We are so proud of Jacks achievement and are overwhelmed by the encouragement and support everyone has shown him throughout the training and the race.

"We would like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to Mowbray School for all of their hard work, care and dedication which has made Jack grow into the amazing young man he is today."
