THREE people from Helmsley are due to appear in court charged with preventing the lawful and decent burial of a dead body following the death of Rina Yasutake.

Ms Yasutake's body was found at a house in Bondgate, Helmsley on 25 September 2018.

The 49-year-old's decomposing body was found in a cottage by builders who smelt a foul odour while replacing the roof.

The three include two women aged 76 and 52 and a man aged 47.

They are due to appear at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 28.

When the news broke in 2018, many residents of the picturesque town had never seen her before and neighbours reacted with astonishment when shown her picture.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Nichola Holden had said: “We realise this incident caused concern among the local community in Helmsley and we thank everyone for their understanding while we carried out what was a very sensitive investigation."
