A ONCE-popular town centre's farmers market which returned after an almost ten-year hiatus, earlier this year, is to return again for at least three more markets bosses confirm.

Following it's success with its 18-stall event held on June 23, it has been confirmed that the Northern Dales Farmers' Market will return to Thirsk Market Place for several more showings in the town this year.

The market, which holds monthly markets in Stokesley, Masham, Preston Park, Wynyard Hall, Hartlepool and Middlesbrough, disappeared from Thirsk towards the end of 2009.

But following on from the town's "previous success" with Artisan markets, which are also held in the Market Place, councillors at Hambleton District Council said they had negotiated with market bosses to bring it back.

After its debut return after almost a decade, Nigel Davison, market manager at Northern Dales Farmers' Market, thanked the "good people of Thirsk" for turning out to see what the independent stall-traders had to offer.

He said: “We had 18 stalls turn out for this first market and we would like to thank the good people of Thirsk and its visitors for a warm welcome and support for our fantastic artisan food producers."

He said he hoped that the return of the market could replicate the success of their Teesside market, which is held at Middlesbrough's Stewart Park and attracts thousands of visitors each time it is held.

However, market bosses have said the market will return on September 22, with further markets planned in the town for October 6 and November 17.

Julie Martin of the Northern Dales Farmers' Market said "things were looking positive".

She said: "All of our traders are locally produced with exceptionally good quality food and drink.

"The traders obviously like to make local produce as a accessible as possible so the Northern Dales Farmers' Market now can offer this on the last weekend of every month. "We are very excited to be returning to Thirsk on a regular basis we do know people in North Yorkshire like locally produced food and drink.

"It seems only right that the market comes back on a regular basis.

"We're in discussions with Hambleton District Council and things are looking very positive for 2020."

After its return earlier this year, Councillor Mark Robson, leader of Hambleton District Council said the market's contribution was "important" to the town.

The next market will take place in the Market Place between 10am and 3pm.
