VOLUNTEERS are putting the final touches to their floral displays as a town competes in a national contest.

Whitby in Bloom is preparing ahead of the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) Britain in Bloom judging fortnight which kicked off yesterday, Monday July 29, running until August 9.

The Yorkshire coastal town is one of 68 finalists across the UK hoping to impress the charity’s judges with their horticultural skills, community spirit and green credentials and walk away with a gold medal.

The town is competing in the Coastal category and will be visited by RHS judges Kate Dagnall & Ann Holland on July 31.

Whitby was previously a national finalist in 2017 when the town was awarded a Silver Gilt.

The RHS Britain in Bloom competition, now in its 55th year will see finalists put their skills to the test.
