A SCHOOL is preparing to host its first Britain's Got Talent-style competition with a wide variety of entertainment promised for the grand final.

Richmond School and Sixth Form College is auditioning student comedians, actors, magicians, musicians and dancers, who hope to secure a place in the grand final on Thursday, July 11.

The full line-up of judges will be revealed nearer the time, with The Northern Echo reporter Ashley Barnard the first to be announced.

Stephen Boyd, lead teacher of music, said: "The judges and the audience are in for a treat as the bar is set very high across the variety of acts signed up so far.

"Richmond School and Sixth Form College has an enviable reputation for its excellence in performing arts.

"With a strong focus and commitment to dance, drama and music there is a huge pool of talent and potential. There are 13 musical groups, dance and theatre companies, so there are enormous openings for our students to try their hand and develop skills in the world of entertainment.

He added: "With such a wealth of talent in school this is a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their skills in a show that promises to be offer an exceptional mix of entertainment. The judges are in for a challenging evening with some tough decisions to make."
