MORE than 2,000 people attended the annual ‘Classics on Show’ event in Stokesley on Saturday.

The classic car event attracted more than 350 classic vehicles, or vehicles with historical importance, and managed to raise more than £13,000 for its organisers, the Rotary Club of Stokesley and five charities.

Petrolheads and visiting members of the public from across the country gathered at the Showfield, for the eighth ‘Classics on Show.’

Derek Mathewson of UKTV’s ‘Bangers & Cash’ TV programme also attended the event and valued the total number of classic cars at around £4.7 million.

The money raised from the event will go towards the James Herriot Hospice, Teesside Hospice, Cancer research UK, MIND and Age UK.

Chris Mayes, President of the Rotary Club of Stokesley, said: “We had more people than we’ve every had before attended.

“It was the best day we’ve every had, the income from the show will be around £13,000 – we took £8,000 on the gates, which is excellent for our club.”

Mr Mayes said he thanked the NAAFI Cafe, run by the Sacred Heart School and the Bilsdale Silver Band who performed.

Mr Mayes added: "They were all very good – the rain stayed off until about 6pm when we were drenched."

Peter Chandler, club member, said: "We guaranteed the weather would be good and it was.

"It was another wonderful day for all the families on the Stokesley Showfield who raised a lot of money for local charities."

The next 'Classics on Show' will take place on Saturday, June 20, 2020.
