A CONCERT choir is celebrating after two successful events in April.
The ROSCO Concert Choir, based in Richmond, presented a concert at Brompton on Swale Church, raising £200 towards the church’s support of a school in India, followed by a concert at Richmond Town Hall raising several hundred pounds for the Mayor’s charities.
Both concerts were preceded and followed by some light music and easy jazz played by conductor John Hunter, his wife Jane, and members of the choir. The choral programme included a wide variety of styles including medleys from Les Miserables and Andrew Lloyd Webber, and solos from well-known local singers Sophie Montgomery, who starred in Richmond Operatic’s My Fair Lady last year; and Gracie Wills, who is soon to portray the lead role of Deloris in Sister Act at the Georgian Theatre Royal.
Mr Hunter said: “Both concerts were extremely well received, both for the quality of singing and diversity of the programme.
"Around half of the choir are members of the Richmond Operatic Society, but I’m pleased other local singers have joined us along the way."
The choir rehearses every Wednesday evening at the ROS headquarters in Bargate.
