A SNOOKER club which was established more than 150 years ago is looking for new members to join to keep the club alive.

Masham Snooker Club, near Ripon, was founded in 1871.

The club claims it is the 'oldest established snooker club' in Britain.

And in its latest attempt to keep the club going, bosses have started up a youth team of boys and girls aged 10 and upwards.

A spokesperson for Masham Snooker Club said: "We are very fortunate to have head coach David Horrix, a world snooker approved coach to help us with this, and have already begun to start the lessons which were a great success.

"We are also looking for any interested parents or adults who would like to learn to play the game and welcome men and women in the area to come and visit our club as we seek to increase our membership – we want to increase our family members within the club as it helps to learn to play together and benefit from what the club has to offer."

The club charges £5 per head for snooker lessons.
