SECONDARY school students have welcomed primary school children to a sports event.

A dozen year eight and year nine school students from Stokesley School took part in a sports event designed to welcome their younger-selves in a sports day.

As part of a recent scheme set up by the school, four and five-year-old children took part in nine different activities within the school's sports hall.

Stokesley School sports co-ordinator Lindsey Asher, heading the scheme, said: “It is always a great pleasure to welcome the youngest of our local primary children to multi-skills events and see how much they get out of the activities.

"Our young leaders engage so well with the children and it’s wonderful to watch them growing in confidence.

"They are a real credit to the school and their parents.

"We look forward to seeing what they can achieve in the future on their journey through PE at school.”

11 Stokesley School pupils took part and helped 'lead' the event, with minimal assistance from Ms Asher.

Some of the activities held for the primary-school children, included jumping, hopping, balancing, skipping and even exercises involving crawling.

The activities were likened to the 'building blocks' of Physical Education at secondary school level.
