CHILDREN from Mill Hill Primary School in Northallerton were given a special lesson on their hometown's past when they spent the day at the council offices.

Pupils from Years One and Two were given a guided tour of the town hall with an exclusive look at the artefacts on show in the Upper Hall.

Town councillor Jack Dobson was their guide for the day. He said: "It was a truly brilliant day. On behalf of members and staff of the Town Council we appreciate the children visiting the Town Hall. They were very well behaved, bright, interested, and really enjoyed the visit. We all agreed it was a ‘magic day’ for all of us to be involved in. We want to thank the teachers and helpers for creating a great event."

The council is keen to encourage other schools to visit and discover more about the town's history call 01609 776718 for information.
