A GROUP of primary school children have brought some festive cheer to a care home for the elderly last weekend.
The children from Great Smeaton Academy Primary School, near Northallerton, were drafted in at the last minute by the staff at Middleton Hall retirement village to provide the entertainment at its annual Christmas party for residents.
They had been let down by the choir they had originally booked so asked for help. Luckily their plight was heard by headmistress Bernie Greenwood, whose father is cared for at the home.
The children sang a number of Christmas songs and carols, accompanied by teacher Ralph Goodchild on guitar.
Three former pupils who are now in secondary school returned to help out their former classmates and teachers.
The performance was thoroughly enjoyed by residents, who joined in with some of the songs.
Staff at Middleton Hall were so impressed by the standard of the singing they plan to invite the children to return next year.
