ROTARIANS in Northallerton have raised more than £3,200 in a year for the town’s new cancer care centre.

The Rotary Club of Northallerton Mowbray has donated the money to the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre which is shortly due to open at the Friarage Hospital.

The club donated the proceeds from a number of functions, including raffles at its charter dinners and a Red, White and Blue Ball held in April.

Macmillan Cancer Support is working with South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to build the cancer centre. Yorkshire philanthropist Sir Robert Ogden has jointly funded the project with Macmillan to offer the latest cancer treatment and support facilities, all under one roof.

The South Tees Trust has invested in the scheme and provided clinical input to the project.

The centre is costing about £10m with Macmillan running a £500,000 appeal to help meet its share of the costs.

Club president Janet Crampton said: “The new cancer care centre is the most significant health development in Northallerton in years."
