AN exhibition charting the history of Northallerton’s former prison has opened in the town’s library.

As part of Family Learning Festival 2018, Hambleton District Council has joined forces with North Yorkshire County Council to install panels detailing how the prison in the centre of Northallerton has changed through its 270 year history.

Artefacts from two recent archaeological digs undertaken by the York Archaeological Trust (YAT) will also be on display in the reference library gallery.

The council is also asking visitors to complete a survey on whether a heritage facility should be included in the re-developed prison site – and if they could offer any volunteering help.

The exhibition runs until November 17.

Library opening times are available on northyorks.gov.u/northallertonlibrary.
