VICTORY rolls, Land Girls and singing along to the music of Vera Lynn kept residents of a Catterick care home entertained on Military Spouse Appreciation Day.

Rosedale Care Home in Catterick Garrison was transported back to the 1940s on May 6 with a vintage tea dance, and residents enjoyed cream teas on vintage tea sets while soprano sing Samantha Holden performed classic songs from the 1920s to the 1940s.

Staff at the home, which provides nursing, residential and specialist dementia care for the elderly, dressed up for the occasion, donning traditional 1940s-style clothing or modern-day military dress.

Julie Dempsey, activities coordinator at Rosedale, said: “Many of our residents have friends and loved ones who served or are currently serving in the army, as do many of our staff, so celebrating Military Spouse Appreciation Day was important to us.”

The event followed recent celebrations for the Queen’s 90th birthday, VE day and Local and Community History month.
