The Government has indicated the A64 between York and the East coast may be in line for upgrade cash in the next round of funding.

Roads minister Stephen Hammond MP has said that he is “convinced” the A64 will succeed the next time road improvement money is allocated.

The road includes long stretches of single carriageway which suffer severe congestion at weekends during summer and also contains a number of dangerous junctions.

Thirsk, Malton and Filey MP Anne McIntosh recently told Ministers in the Commons it was an “extremely congested and dangerous road”.

She called for the major road to receive funding through a Government scheme designed to target bottlenecks in the UK which are holding back economic growth.
