A TRAVELLING exhibition by two Dales painters has moved to a new venue.

The Climb up to the Moor touring exhibition, featuring work by Judith Bromley and Robert Nicholls, from Askrigg, near Hawes, will be at The Folly in Settle until July 7.

The paintings were inspired by the moorlands of the Dales. The couple say the work tells of the physical and ecological, psychological and spiritual importance of the area’s peat bogs, not least for carbon capture and storage.

The touring exhibition was curated with the help of Fiona Rocher, manager of the Dales Countryside Museum, in Hawes, from the paintings which Mrs Bromley used as illustrations in the design of their book Climb up to the Moor, published in October 2011.

Launched last year at the Dales Countryside Museum where it was on show for three months, the collection of paintings then moved to The Station in Richmond during September, before being put to bed during the winter. After The Folly it will move on to the Peak District National Park visitor centres, and next year to Clitheroe Castle, Lancashire; Brockhole, Lake District and Kirkleatham Museum, near Middlesbrough.

While the exhibition is away from home Mrs Bromley, has been sorting out paintings that have been stored in the couple’s cupboards and on shelves for years.

Some of the artwork will be on show during their regular Wednesday openings at their home at Beech House, Askrigg. Visitors can make an offer for any paintings they like.

Mrs Bromley said: “I would rather these paintings went to good homes where they will be loved, than have them gather dust in storage.”
