THE foam flew in a tale of glamour and gang warfare as students took to the stage in a prohibition classic.
Forty students from the Allertonshire School, Northallerton, spent months planning and rehearsing their version of the hit show Bugsy Malone.
The three-night musical transported packed audiences back to 1929 New York to witness rival gangs battle it out for territory with splurge guns and foam pies.
Main parts were double cast giving more students the chance to share the limelight. Performers began rehearsals in January and spent hours at home, on Sundays and in lunch breaks learning their lines and the music.
Music teacher Mary David said: “We have always wanted to stage Bugsy because of all the twists and turns, the brilliant band parts and the fact it is so much fun.
“As well as the three nights, we staged a matinee for our feeder primary schools, which also acted as a dress rehearsal.
“The children loved it and described the show as jaw-dropping, epic and awesome; you can’t get better than that.”
