MOVES to develop a new petrol station and store on the site of an existing garage will create up to 20 jobs, planners have been told.

Members of Hambleton District Council’s Planning Committee approved an application to redevelop the existing John Gill garage in Bedale road, Aiskew creating a larger shop with four fuel pumps.

The scheme for John Hall and Co Ltd would also bring a windfall with money contributed by the developers towards the Bedale Cycleway and Footpath scheme.

Planning officer John Howe said the amount of contribution is currently being discussed with the developers after they asked for a reduction from standard calculations because of the particular nature of the site.

The shop would be open from 6.30am to 11pm with round the clock fuel sales, a jet car wash and 23 car parking spaces.

While two jobs are expected to be lost from the existing site, the developers have said the new plans would create six full time and 14 part time jobs.

The site is next door to a new development of 90 houses currently being built by Taylor Wimpey.
