THE secrets of what makes a magical musical performance will be explored when concert pianist and teacher Anthony Williams leads a masterclass.

Piano pupils, from beginners to advanced grades, will be taking part in the event at Durham’’s North Road Methodist Church, between 9.30am and 4.30pm on Saturday, February 24.

Each will play a short programme and then Mr Williams will give guidance and encouragement..

The event is open to the public and will be of interest to all music lovers.

Durham piano teacher Barry Maleham, who will have a number pupils taking part, said: “Anthony is a popular personality in the music teaching world and is much in demand as a speaker.

“As well as offering a wealth of musical insight, he is very sensitive with young players. It will be a very valuable experience for all those taking part. "He is extremely entertaining and will make the day fun and informative for all.”

Mr Williams has an international reputation with many former pupils becoming professional musicians. He teaches at Radley College, Oxford and is also an examiner for jazz and classical music.

The event is organised by Durham Young Musicians (DYM), a charity which promotes music making among young people.

Admission is £4 at the door and £2 for DYM members.
