SCORES of would be cricketers were given a masterclass by a man who knows his onions in the sport.
Durham and England bowler Graham Onions was the guest of honour at a junior cricket festival staged at Durham City CC’s Green Lane ground.
More than 100 boys and girls attended the festival, one of a series of successful coaching sessions staged by the Durham League side through the summer.
Club president Brian Stone and secretary Frank Orr, plus a team of dedicated coaches have provided a structured coaching and development programme for budding players.
They highlighted the achievements of Danielle Hazell, current member of England Women’s World Cup squad, who joined Durham City as a youngster and went on to international honours.
She is seen as something of a role model to show the young players what can be achieved by attending the coaching sessions and putting into practice what they have been taught.
As a thanks to the club for its efforts bringing through such talent, the star visitor presented Mr Stone with a small trophy to mark its efforts on the coaching front.
The festival was the latest in a series of events staged by the club to raise its profile in the city and to help bring in fresh new talent and sponsorship to ensure a bright future.
