A WEEKEND of stunts and displays is set to return to the North East for a popular event aimed at people who love bikes.

Durham Police officers are gearing up to welcome thousands of people this weekend for their popular Bikewise event.

The annual event, which has become one of the North-East’s most popular family fun days, takes place from 10am to 5pm on Sunday, July 23 at Durham Police’s headquarters in Aykley Heads.

Among the attractions will be one of the last ever performances by the Royal Signals Motorcycle Display Team, the White Helmets, who will be disbanded after the summer.

For the past 90 years, the team has captivated audiences around the world with their daredevil tricks, earning them the reputation as one of the best and most accomplished motorcycle display teams in the country.

Darlington-based stunt rider Dave Coates, and mountain bike display team 3SIXTY will also wow the crowds with their daredevil tricks, while officers from the popular TV show Police Interceptors will be there to meet their fans.

Bikers will also be able to get up close and personal with Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness and police dogs will perform a special show for visitors.

Other attractions will include live music from North-East band Kimera, vintage bike display, police helicopter and Great North Air Ambulance, Mini Police, funfair and various stalls.

Chief Constable Mike Barton said: “Bikewise has become a fantastic family day out and it’s easy to see why – there really is something for everyone, not just bikers.

“We are really looking forward to welcoming everyone to this year’s event and hope everyone has a brilliant day.”

Parking for motorcycles is the same as in previous years, at the police headquarters.
