AN unusual lunch club is taking off which gives older people the chance to enjoy a meal and take to the cockpit of a flight simulator.

Lunch On The Wing is a monthly club being launched by Age UK County Durham which will meet at Icarus Simulation in Langley Park, near Durham.

Participants can enjoy a buffet lunch freshly prepared by cooks from Durham and Darlington Fire Service and get personal instruction from a qualified pilot on the flight simulator.

Members of the charity’s Men’s Group recently “test piloted” the new lunch club, with members choosing to fly their planes through New York City, over the beaches of Rio de Janeiro and jet through the Lake District fells.

The club’s first session will take place at noon on Wednesday, July 26, followed by the last Wednesday of each month.

Sessions are limited to a maximum of eight people to ensure personal tuition from pilot Ed Jackson and cost £9 per person, including all refreshments and flight time.
