THE Bishop of Durham, the Right Reverend Paul Butler, said he was familiar with the area of the London Bridge attacks.
Speaking during the latest of his Prayer Walks, in Hartlepool, the Bishop said he and his wife Rosemary have knowledge of the vicinity through one of their sons.
“It’s right opposite where one of our sons works, so we know the area well,” he said.
Speaking about the latest atrocity to hit the country, he said: “It’s hard to find the right words. I stand alongside those who have suffered.”
He added that the message must go out, that, “we won’t give in to those attempting to destroy our lives.”
The Bishop was speaking following Sunday morning mass at St Columba’s Church, in Hartlepool, prior to a walk in the town and an open air service in Burbank Street.
