YOUNG people are bringing Indie music star Barry Hyde of the Futureheads to their local community centre.

Tickets are already sold out for the gig at Dawdon Community Centre, Seaham, on Friday.

The young people have collaborated with Barry to organise supporting acts to join him, including The Wish, Shawn Cross and Georgina Percival.

The main support act will be a young up-and-coming musician Tom ‘Mouse’ Smith - a viral sensation who has supported everyone from James Bay to the The Charlatans.

The gig is part of a series of events that make up East Durham Trust’s No More Nowt Happens project which is funded by County Durham Community Foundation supported by East Durham Creates – a project funded by Arts Council England.

The project brings groups of young people together to plan and stage events with professional performers and artists in local non-traditional venues.

East Durham Trust chief executive Malcolm Fallow said: “To host a musician of Barry Hyde’s standing is a real coup and it just shows what a group of local young people can achieve if we give them the right support and resources.”
