A COMMUNITY theatre group is getting ready to perform a live version of a classic children’s story.

React! Youth Theatre’s latest stage show is The Adventures of Mr Toad.

It is on at the Empire Theatre in Consett from March 20 to 22.

The production is based on Piers Chater-Robinson’s version of Kenneth Grahame’s Wind in the Willows.

James Grainger plays Toad, with Victoria Simmons as Badger, Olivia Stafford as Rat and Emily Donnelly as Mole.

The rest of the cast is made up of young people aged seven to 17 from Consett and the surrounding area.

Promoter Wendy Simmons said: “We started rehearsals in September and everyone has done a lot of work.

“It costs a lot of money to put a show on at the Empire so we have done a lot of fundraising and the children have been rehearsing every week.”

Shows start at 7pm. Tickets cost £8, £7 concessions, are available by calling 01207-218-171.
