TWO men have appeared at court after four police officers were injured while dealing with an incident.
The officers were called to Dunelm Way, in Leadgate, near Consett, on Sunday at about 4.40pm, following reports a member of the public had been assaulted.
While dealing with the situation, one officer suffered serious injuries to his teeth and jaw which required dental surgery. Another sustained a broken hand, and two were described as walking wounded.
John Pinder, 25, of Dunelm Way, Leadgate, Consett, appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with two counts of common assault, two counts of actual bodily harm, one count of grievous bodily harm, assault with intent to resist arrest, and one count of assaulting a police officer in execution of her duty.
He did not enter any pleas and was remanded in custody.
Paul Nixon, 46, of John Street, Blackhill, Consett, also appeared charged with assault with intent to resist arrest and actual bodily harm.
He was released on conditional bail.
They will both appear at Durham Crown Court on September 26.
