GENEROUS pub regulars have a raised £1,400 for charity by making regular donations in a ‘booby jar’.
A dedicated fundraising evening was held recently at Golden Lion in Leadgate, with the money being split between Boobilicious, a breast cancer charity, and the If You Care Share Foundation, the suicide prevention charity based in Great Lumley.
The jar, in the shape of a woman’s chest, complete with a bra, was made by organiser David Nichols, who decided to donate a £1 every time he went for a drink.
The idea snowballed and other people joined in, culminating in an evening at the pub with a raffle and a prize for guessing the amount in the jar.
Mr Nichols said: “It was a fantastic day and great seeing community spirit again.
“We are already talking about next year. I am making another jar to put in workingman’s club.”
