A COMMUNITY fair organised by children has raised £1,500 for charity.
Youngsters from the Chester-le-Street area held event at Pelton Community Centre on Saturday in aid of Cancer Research UK.
They had the idea to raise money for poorly children by selling their own possessions.
They held meetings, designed a logo, made banners and advertised the fair over Facebook.
Andrew Liddell, whose son was one of the organisers, said: “Over the weeks leading up to the event, more and more generous donations were offered from local shops and businesses who added to the array of prizes, and offerings the children had gathered and made.”
The event was attended by local police officers and firefighters.
The children involved were Aran Huey, Emily McMurray, Billy Pearson, Daniel Shickle, Isaac Liddell, George Bell, Scarlett Timothy and Dylan Timothy.
Mr Liddell said: “Hopefully this may sow a seed of inspiration and prompt other children to do something special in times where community spirit is often brought into question and local children sometimes labelled too hastily.”
