A COMMUNITY theatre group is bringing a hugely popular television series to the stage.

Dryburn Theatrical Workshop is performing The Vicar of Dibley at Chester-le-Street Community Centre next week.

The play opens with the surprise appointment of a female vicar to the village of Dibley, and follows the hilarious efforts of Geraldine, to win over her sceptical parishioners and celebrate the wedding of Alice Tinker and Hugo Horton.

From the odorous Owen, the dithering ‘no-no-no-no’of Jim, the officious Frank and culinary challenged Letitia, all the villagers are portrayed, headed up by the pompous David and his much put-upon son Hugo.

Lee Passmoor, chairman of Dryburn Theatrical Workshop, said: “We’re thrilled to bring The Vicar of Dibley to the local stage.

“These are very funny and much-loved characters and storylines.

“I’m sure audiences will be delighted with the show, which will also help fundraise for the Comic Relief charity.

“We have a long history of successful performances, bringing together a talented local cast, impressive productions and loyal audiences from across the North-East.”

Show times are at 7.15pm Wednesday to Saturday September 6-9.

Tickets are £7 for all on the Wednesday, and £8 for adults and £7 for concessions Thursday to Saturday. To book call 0191-388-3362 or 07468-607420.
