CONVICTED criminals have helped pay for a week of free activities for children.
The event, which is run by Durham Police and is now in its 11th year, is taking place in Chester-le-Street until Friday, August 18.
A range of different activities, including a human demolition ball, gladiator joust climbing wall, inflatable slide, rodeo bull and face painting are being put on in the town’s Market Place from 10am to 3pm each day.
It is free and has been funded through money confiscated from criminals through the Proceeds of Crime Act.
PCSO Adrian Richards said: “We would urge people of all ages to come down and enjoy the fun activities we have on offer.
“We have a great selection of attractions and they are all free.”
Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Hogg said: “I’m delighted to support this week of activity again this year. This is such a popular event and a great opportunity to engage with residents, right at the heart of the local community.”
The week will also feature appearances by the Police Interceptors, who appear on the popular Channel Five show, the motorcycle unit and police dogs Jet and Ben.
