CHILDREN from four primary schools within a learning partnership have been showing their work via social media pages.

South Stanley Infant & Nursery School, South Stanley Junior School, Greenland Community Primary School and Bloemfontein Primary School are part of the Stanley Learning Partnership (SLP).

Pupils from each school have been sharing their home learning stories via school social media pages as the Multi-Academy Trust launched its Home Learning Heroes initiative, which aims to acknowledge the efforts of both children and their families as they learn from home during school closures.

Families whose children attend the SLP schools have been posting photos of the youngsters as they continue to learn whilst schools are closed amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mark Stewart, CEO for the partnership, said: "We felt it important to celebrate all of the hard work of the children that are at home and the dedication of their families who encourage them to continue to learn.

"We do not underestimate how difficult it is to maintain a routine and motivate children to continue with their schoolwork at present.

"Add to that working from home, being a key worker or caring for others and it can be very challenging to say the least.

"Children are missing their friends, teachers and school life so Home Learning Heroes is our way of letting our families know we think they are doing a great job - whatever they are doing!"

Home Learning Heroes celebrates children’s efforts in numerous activities, including baking, keeping fit, making their bed and tidying their bedroom, and the initiative has received positive feedback.

Alan Pinkerton, Greenland Community Primary School pupil, said: "I’ve loved being able to show my teachers what I am doing at home.

"There is always a positive message posted on our pictures so it’s great to know they’re still thinking of us and like what we’re doing – even if it’s not always schoolwork!"

Emma Forster, a Stanley Learning Partnership parent, said: "Home Learning Heroes has been a great incentive for the children working from home, allowing them to share with teachers and friends what they have been doing whilst school has been closed to them.

"Spending time with our children looking at other Home Learning Heroes from across our four SLP schools gives them a greater understanding of the situation we are faced with and the reassurance that we are all in this together and will get through it together."

Home Learning Heroes will resume when schools would traditionally return on Monday, April 20.
