PLANS for a late night booze delivery service in Durham have been canned.

Earlier this year County Durham’s licensing bosses were asked for permission to sell alcohol 24 hours a day every day of the week, with deliveries running as late as 2am.

But following objections from local leaders, ‘Jovial Technologies Limited’, the applicant named in paperwork, withdrew its application before a decision could be made.

According to plans, the venture would have been based at the Crossgate Centre, in Crossgate, Durham City.

Orders would have been made through ‘a mobile application named Jovi’, with an assurance all sales will behave ‘via the internet only’ and ‘no sales or transactions to be made from the premises itself’.

But City of Durham Parish Council submitted their objections to the scheme, citing the apparent lack of a limit on order quantities.
