A SERIES of workshops and events are being across Gateshead throughout the year focusing on the action needed to achieve ‘zero carbon’.

In declaring a climate emergency in May, Gateshead Council has committed to being carbon neutral by 2030 in its own activities, as well as helping reduce carbon emissions throughout the borough.

Councillor Martin Gannon, leader of the authority, said: “Tackling climate change is one of the Council’s top priorities.

What is happening across the globe is happening here in Gateshead, this is an emergency and we all need to act now to change it.

“Everyone has a carbon footprint, by the way we travel, shop, eat, use energy and buy things, so every resident, business, organisation in Gateshead needs to think about what they can do reverse the current path. We’re going to need to be bold to bring about the rapid changes needed in Gateshead.”
