MEMBERS of a community group have put on their Christmas performance for friends and family.

The Cheesy Waffles Project, which is based in Belmont and works with people with learning disabilities, put on the show over two night after weeks of rehearsals.

Members of the project’s making music group, aged between 10 and 33, prepared a variety of songs, dance routines, drama and poetry.

Erika Denholm, who manages the project, said: “The project has been going for a lot of years but it’s getting bigger and bigger.

“They did really well and it was a really good performance. They loved the whole process, planning and rehearsing together. All the team work is lovely.”

They raised more than £2,000 through ticket sales, a raffle and refreshments, while on the night, a further £1,420 was handed over by the City of Durham Golf Club, which had raised the money though golf days, charity nights and raffles.

The donation will be used for new lights and microphones for the project.
