AN annual service to remember loved ones is taking place once again this Christmas.

St Cuthbert's Hospice's Light Up a Life service at Durham Cathedral is an opportunity for people to remember their loved ones during the festive period.

Kay Carrick, senior donor development fundraiser at the hospice, said: “Light Up A Life is a beautiful way to remember and celebrate the lives of those who have touched our hearts. Every year many families, who may or may not have a connection to St Cuthbert’s Hospice, come together for this special remembrance service.”

“The service is an opportunity to remember those no longer with us and reflect on the good times spent with them. Whilst lighting a candle and remembering how they illuminated your life. Many tell us they find the service uplifting. There’s something about being at Durham Cathedral that instantly brings a feeling of comfort and it is a wonderful space for contemplation, no matter what faith or beliefs you have.”

The service on Sunday, December 15 starts at 7pm and will feature readings, prayers and music from Durham Miners Association Brass Band and The Durham Singers.

Those who make a donation will see the name of their loved one included in the St Cuthbert’s Books of Remembrance and will receive a personalised commemorative card and keepsake.
