A SCHOOL band is having a reunion concert to celebrate its 1970s glory days.

Former members of Framwellgate Moor Comprehensive School (FMCS) brass band will be going back to stage a concert to raise money for the music department at Framwellgate School Durham.

Original member Stephen Smart, who is now a freelance French horn player and has played with many of the country's leading orchestras , will be performing alongside the school's wind band at a concert this month.

He said: "My first taste of playing the French horn was in Framwellgate Moor Comprehensive School Brass Band as it was known in those days.

Music for me, like everyone else in the world, is of huge importance in life. Music has the power to bond people together, develop team work, encourages commitment and dedication, as well as enhancing valuable social and communication skills for students to use throughout their life.

"Through the technological age we live in now, I’ve managed to get in touch with several of my fellow band members and we were all keen to stage this concert to raise funds for music in the school.

"We cannot think of a better way of doing this than by getting back together and playing again.”

Funds will be shared with Spennymoor Town Band, who will also play alongside current pupils.

Tickets for the event are £5 and it takes place at Framwellgate School Durham on Wednesday, October 23, starting at 7pm.
