PRIMARY school pupils have been getting ready for a popular community event by making "wish flags" to parade at the opening ceremony.
Children from Houghton-le-Spring have been taking part in art workshops ahead of the annual Houghton Feast, which starts on Friday, October 4.
Pupils from Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Primary school were among those creating the flags, which will decorate the town's The Broadway for the opening ceremony, which starts at 7pm.
Councillor Anne Lawson, chair of the Coalfields Area Committee and of the Houghton Feast steering group, said: “Houghton Feast is a fantastic annual event celebrating all that is good about our community, and who better to design and fly the flags symbolising that sense of pride and aspiration than our children.
Barbara Reilly-O'Donnell, headteacher at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Primary added: “We are all very proud of Houghton Feast and delighted that children here and across the community have had this opportunity to be directly involved in helping to promote it."
