A MALE voice choir celebrating their 60th year is appealing for new members to help ensure the future of the group.

The Shiney Row Male Voice Choir is inviting people to attend an open night at St Aidan's Parish Centre, Kirkside, New Herrington, from 6.45pm to 9pm on Friday.

Choir secretary Charles Harrison said: "We have 36 members and hope that in this, our 60th year, we can attract new members whjo will help carry the choir forward for the next 60 years.

"Singing in a group offers us a sense of belonging to something bigger than ourselves.

"Choristers will tell you that it is good fun doing something that is challenging as part of a group of friends and giving pleasure to an audience as well as themselves.

"Most members join after a busy working life and look for something enjoyable in retirement so most members are aged 60 to 90. We do however have younger members and recently had a university student join." For further details contact Mr Harrison on 0191-584 0101.
